Episode 025: Two Doctors Grieving the Death of their Son with Dr. Marcy Larson
The last two months have been the most painful of my life. On August 15, 2018, I lost my 14 year old son Andy Larson in a car accident. I was driving slowly in the exit lane with my wife and two sons to the local minor league baseball team's game in our van when we were struck from behind by a sedan traveling at a high speed. My son, Andy, was killed instantly when he sustained a fractured neck.

i just finished listening and i don’t have any words to help, but wanted to thank you for sharing your story. i enjoyed learning about your little boy and have passed along the link for others to hear as well. will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers, that you may find strength.
Your family is in my every day thoughts and prayers. I travel daily to SHBR and pass that location every morning, look for the shining light, makes the sign of the cross and say a prayer. I know in my heart that Andy has his arms out wide protecting his family. It is the very least I can do to offer some sense of peace for Andy’s beloved family
I just listened to this episode. It is obvious how connected your family is to one another. Thank you for doing this episode. I don’t think I would have been able to do this at any time after a death, let alone 2 months after. I am a pediatrician in Knoxville and appreciate the insight you have given me on what to say to my families who have lost their child. I listened to Andy’s solo and he has the voice of an angel.
Thank you so much for the very kind words. It certainly hasn’t been easy. Talking about it in this controlled setting has helped us a little. As physicians, we want to help people so it is sort of a way to do that in a non-traditional manner. I can only hope some tiny shred of goodness can come out of this truly devastating and miserable event.
